Supermarket Grand Opening

Christopher Webber | Posted on | announcements | community | cookbooks | release

We are excited to announce the Grand Opening of Supermarket – the new Chef community site! On July 7th, 2014 at 12:00 PM PDT (2014–07–07 19:00 UTC) we will close the old community site and redirect all traffic to https://supermarket.getchef.com. At that time, Supermarket will be the official community site.

What would grand opening be without a giveaway? In keeping with the supermarket theme, we are giving away a t-shirt to everyone that completes the survey about Supermarket by 2014–08–30 23:59:59 UTC. But why stop there? We will be randomly selecting two of the people who complete the survey to each win free registration to the Chef Community Summit, October 2nd and 3rd, 2014.

Berkshelf

As part of the Grand Opening, Supermarket will also be taking on the responsibility of serving the Berkshelf API. Berkshelf is an important part of the community’s workflow, and it is important that it is a first class citizen. For Berkshelf 3 users, the change should be seamless. We have tested extensively to ensure that both http://api.berkshelf.com and https://api.berkshelf.com work as sources in your Berksfile. Since Berkshelf 2 does not use an API server, users are unaffected by this change.

We cannot do this without you

Supermarket belongs to the community. While Chef has the responsibility to keep it running and be stewards of its functionality, what it does and how it works is driven by the community. The opscode/supermarket repository will continue to be where development of the Supermarket application takes place. Come be part of shaping the direction of Supermarket by opening issues and pull requests or by joining us on the supermarket mailing list or in Gitter.

As we continue to support the efforts of the amazing Chefs in the community, we plan to hire additional engineers to help continue the progress we have already made. These engineers will work closely with the community and help shape the direction of Supermarket. If you want to come work with amazing coworkers and a vibrant community, please take a look at our job postings for a Software Development Engineer and a User Experience Engineer .

Thank you

There have been countless contributions made to Supermarket over the last six months. The community input, whether it was in the form of issues, pull requests, or just conversations in chat have been invaluable. Thank you to everyone who has been along for this journey to this point. We look forward to seeing where the community helps us take the new site.
