New staff additions to accelerate application automation leader’s strategic transformation
SEATTLE — OCTOBER 15, 2018 — Chef, the leader in Continuous Automation, today announced the appointment of Evan Fein as its CFO, Katie Long as vice president of legal and Jenny Armstrong-Owen as vice president of employee experience. The additions strengthen the company’s executive ranks during a period of rapid transformation from a focus on infrastructure to application automation, enabling enterprises to accelerate digital transformation through cloud migration.
“Evan, Jenny and Katie bring key leadership capabilities that will be important in Chef’s next growth chapter as we both deepen and expand our customer base,” said Barry Crist, Chef CEO. “As Chef expands our Chef’s automation platform with an emphasis on applications, we are undergoing accelerated growth and reaching a new set of buyers inside our core markets. It is great to build and strengthen our team during this exciting time for the company.”
Fein brings more than 25 years of financial management experience to Chef, having led several public and private equity financings and numerous debt financings. He most recently served as CFO at Impinj from 2000 to 2018, when he led the company through a successful IPO and follow-on raising more than $100M. Fein holds an MBA and a BS in mathematics from the University of Washington.
“I believe that Chef is playing a critical role in today’s rapidly-evolving IT landscape and meeting a significantly underserved need in today’s marketplace,” said Fein. “I am thrilled to have joined the team at this pivotal moment in Chef’s trajectory and am eager to drive the company, our culture and our strategy in the future.”
Long leads the Chef legal team, handling both internal and external legal matters for the company. She brings to Chef a reputation for being an action-oriented legal partner who brings not only legal acumen, but also a keen eye towards larger business issues. She holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Seattle University School of Law and a BA in psychology from Seattle Pacific University.
“Chef has laid a solid business foundation and has a long history of excellence in legal matters and corporate governance,” said Long, “I look forward to working closely with Barry and the rest of the Chef team to help achieve the business goals of Chef, its customers and its partners.”

Armstrong-Owen holds a MBA from the Michael G. Foster School of Business at the University of Washington and a BA from The Evergreen State College.
“People are the most critical asset in every business and never more so than at Chef,” said Armstrong-Owen. “The proactive and highly productive work culture that Chef has created is at the core of its value to its customers and partners, and I am committed to not only preserving it, but to elevating it, as we move forward into the future.”
