End-of-Life Announcement for Chef Server for Linux on IBM Z and Linux on IBM Power Systems

Today we are announcing the end-of-life date of Chef Server for Linux on IBM Z and Linux on IBM Power Systems to be May 1, 2019.

Support for Chef Server on the x86_64 processor architecture is not affected by this announcement. Chef also continues to support Chef Client for Linux on IBM Z and Linux on IBM Power Systems.

What does end-of-life mean?

Effective immediately, Chef will cease producing new builds for the s390x, ppc64, and ppc64le architectures. The final release of Chef Server for Linux on IBM Z and Linux on IBM Power Systems is version 12.18.14.

On May 1, 2019, Chef will terminate support for Chef Server for Linux on IBM Z and Linux on IBM Power Systems.

What are the replacement products? What should I do if I am still using these products?

Customers still using Chef Server on these processor architectures should plan a migration to a supported version of Chef Server on the x86_64 processor architecture. We also encourage customers in the cloud to adopt AWS OpsWorks for Chef Automate or Chef Automate Managed Service for Azure.

Who can I contact to discuss my migration and support options?

Please contact your Chef customer success manager or account representative to review your options around this end-of-life announcement.
