Opscode Deploys Rackspace Cloud Private Edition

As a Rackspace Certified Deployment Partner, Opscode’s Chef Serves to Deploy and Operate Large-Scale Cloud Infrastructure

SEATTLE, Wash – November 7, 2011 — Opscode, Inc., the leader in cloud infrastructure automation, has today announced that it will be a Certified Deployment Partner for Rackspace® Cloud: Private Edition. The announcement follows Rackspace’s news today that it has launched Rackspace Cloud: Private Edition.

Opscode Chef is an open source systems integration framework built for automating the cloud. It allows IT teams to easily deploy thousands of servers and scale applications throughout an entire infrastructure. Through a combination of configuration management and service-oriented architectures, Chef™, Hosted Chef™ (OHC) and Private Chef™ (OPC) make it easy to create an elegant, fully automated infrastructure while simplifying systems management.

“The launch of the Rackspace cloud is another important indicator of the rising demand for cloud computing among businesses of all sizes,” said Jesse Robbins, Cofounder and Chief Community Officer at Opscode. “This partnership with Rackspace underscores the critical role that Opscode’s Chef serves to quickly and easily deploy and operate large-scale cloud infrastructure.”

“Opscode has worked closely with us as a deployment partner and has provided outstanding and reliable service to help us meet the demands of our customers working in the cloud,” said Jim Curry, General Manager of Rackspace Cloud Builders. “With Opscode’s leadership in providing cloud infrastructure automation, we will continue to provide our customers with optimal deployment of Rackspace Cloud: Private Edition.”

Opscode’s Chef solutions provide simple scalability, rapid deployment and configuration management capabilities to IT managers. Its OHC and OPC solutions deliver centrally controlled, role-based access and data encryption, which gives IT managers control over who can see information and when it is available. In addition, OHC and OPC include full automation capabilities for infrastructure in any environment, including quality assurance, pre-production, partner-preview and more. Chef’s infrastructure awareness provides automatic discovery of thousands of valuable data-points, and delivers accurate and repeatable configuration management as a virtual on-demand capability.

Opscode Private Chef provides a highly available, dynamically scalable, fully managed and supported automation environment behind the corporate firewall. Private Chef is delivered as a mix of enterprise software and professional services. Private Chef consists of the same code base Opscode uses to run Hosted Chef – stable, highly available and battle-hardened and is delivered with Opscode consulting and 24/7/365 support.

Opscode Hosted Chef combines the freedom and flexibility of Chef with the reliability and speed of Opscode. No matter how complex the realities of a business, Hosted Chef makes it easy to deploy servers and scale applications throughout an entire infrastructure – immediately. Opscode Hosted Chef is delivered with a service level agreement (SLA), Quickstarts for easy automation of common application stacks running on the Rackspace Cloud and Amazon EC2, and enhanced enterprise-level services and support.

In addition to its capabilities for Linux and Unix environments, Opscode recently announced broad deployment and automation of key components of Windows infrastructure, including PowerShell, Internet Information Services (IIS), SQL server and Windows services.
