What to Talk About at ChefConf 2020 – Chef InSpec

The ChefConf 2020 CFP is well underway. Have you put your topic in yet? If you’re still thinking about what talk you’d like to present, maybe you’re considering a talk about Chef InSpec

InSpec is a powerful tool for investigating and reporting on the security of your various infrastructure components, including resources in the cloud. Organizations are using Chef InSpec to verify their infrastructure is meeting their security baselines over the entire lifecycle of those components. Let’s take a look at some InSpec talks from ChefConf 2019.

Has your team gotten value out of using InSpec to test your infrastructure code? InSpec provides value in many environments when you are practicing Infrastructure as Code methodologies. Longtime Chef Community star Lynn Frank presented “InSpec Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself”, which was one of the most popular sessions at ChefConf 2019. How is your team making use of Chef InSpec to ensure your infrastructure is doing what you intend it to be doing?

Maybe your use of Chef InSpec drives your compliance within regulatory frameworks. Nicholas Mellen, now of Accenture, and Marcelo Zambrana of Microsoft presented “Application Independent Verification and Validation Testing with Chef Automate and Compliance Profiles”. Does your organization use Chef InSpec to manage complex security audit requirements, or to ensure that your platforms meet stringent regulations?

Is your organization using InSpec to reduce time to market and release features faster? Have you learned some lessons on how to integrate Chef InSpec into your workflows for better resolution of vulnerabilities or other weaknesses? Kyle Harper of Cerner shared “Delivering Security Control at Velocity” at ChefConf 2019. There’s more interesting stuff about security regulations and standards in here too. Are you doing something similar, something completely different, or a combination?

We want to hear from you. We know Chef InSpec is a flexible tool for managing security controls for your infrastructure, and there’s folks doing all kinds of interesting stuff with it, from remediating CVEs across huge fleets to testing their configuration management code. There’s space for your story at ChefConf 2020.
